Christian Aid Week
If you wish to contribute and have not yet received an envelope
through your letterbox, there is a small supply on the table at the
top of the stairs. Please return any filled envelopes, acquired
from any source, to Margaret, who will forward the money.
Salvation Army use of our premises
As previously intimated, following the closure of the Salvation
Army Central Corps' premises, arrangements have been agreed for
their regular Worship on Sunday afternoons from next week, at least
until the autumn, with possible other bookings requested. There are
no effects on our Methodist activities to note: eg provision and
distribution of flowers, times of worship and booked meetings are
expected to continue unaltered. If you foresee a difficulty,
please raise it with the Bookings Officer (Liz), the Minister, a
Property Committee member or Church Council member.
Safeguarding Training: update
As intimated in last week's news-sheet, arrangements are in progress
to organise the required session for training the relevant people in
our Circuit's churches through “Creating Safer Space -
Module A”. The various dates, venues and times are still
being negotiated and it is hoped to contact relevant people direct
as soon as possible. The likelihood of the Salvation Army using
Marketgait on the (suggested) afternoon of Sunday 26th June is
also being taken into account. Please contact Ian direct,
if necessary, for any clarification.
Methodist Art Collection in Scotland (again)
The Methodist Art Collection is to feature as a central part of the “Shadows of the Divine” Exhibition in New College, Edinburgh from 14th May to 11th June. The exhibition sets the pictures alongside a rare first edition of the 1611 King James Bible. The aim is to explore how pictures set in a literary context can represent and even contribute to the search for peace.
The Methodist Art Collection, begun in the 1960s and a unique collection of Christian art, includes more than 40 works by Graham Sutherland, Elisabeth Frink and many other renowned artists. It is described as “one of the most significant collections of its kind ever assembled”.
Scottish Bible Society Magazine: 'Alive and Active'
As Jean's successor as SBS link person, Jenny receives the supply of the SBS magazines. It would help to know who still wishes to have the magazine or of new people who might wish a regular copy (eg those attending the two Bible Groups).
If you have been receiving a copy please take a copy of the Spring 2011 edition from the pile on the Vestibule table and sign the paper.
If you also wish to be given a copy in future, please sign and indicate accordingly.
Jenny will re-assess the list in June and, if necessary, order more. Thanks!
