Dundee Methodist Church

06 June 2004

We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

Project 2004 : “Sponsored Jigsaw Event” for Slessor Foundation

See flyer and sponsorship forms which are available today for this event to be held on Saturday 19th June. It is hoped that there will be good support. More details from Elizabeth R. The next pre-worship Gathering will be next Sunday at 10.15 am.

“Come As You Are”

This material aims to help exploration of what belonging to the Methodist Church means. The Pastoral Committee and Church Council encourage everyone to think carefully and share together what “Membership” implies for us all today, through coming together on a series of evenings (or during the daytime) in the summer months.

David Firth (223059) & Jenny E would be pleased to hear from those interested in this, as soon as possible, so suitable arrangements can be made and publicised expeditiously.

“Quiet Room”

The downstairs back room is being prepared as a place for quiet reflection & personal prayer before worship on Sundays.

Preaching Plans

Plans for the Quarter June - August are now available from the Vestibule table - free - also note Circuit Diary Dates on insert.

Vote to Combat Intolerance

The Methodist Council (on which Jenny E represents the Scotland District) recommends that church members “reject parties that promote racist policies”.

In February, Council, seeking to strengthen people working in local settings and facing issues raised by the British National Party, and to encourage challenges to racism and religious intolerance wherever these occur, passed the following resolution:

“The Methodist Council

  • Affirms that the Methodist Church is open to all in its worship, fellowship and service to the community. The policies and practices of those who promote racism and religious intolerance are incompatible with the Methodist Church’s social witness, biblical teaching and our understanding of the love of God for all people.
  • Encourages people to vote in local, national and European elections. While not endorsing any particular political party, we urge people not to vote for candidates who promote racist policies.
  • Expects members of the Methodist Church to practise and promote racial justice and inclusion, and reject any political party that attempts to stir up racial and religious hatred and fear of asylum seekers.”
