We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

General Church Meeting

This opportunity for reflection and decision by ALL involved in the life of the Methodist people based in Marketgait will be after worship on Sunday 23rd May. Nominations for 2 new Church Stewards are invited, plus designation of a “Senior Church Steward”. Expected Agenda items also include confirmation / election of representatives to the Church Council, election of Church Treasurer, and designation of Finance Committee Convener.

Nominations (and suggestion of any other matters to be discussed) should be given to the Minister 2 weeks in advance or intimated through a Church Steward.

Link Club

  • At Tuesday’s AGM, the office-bearers were re-elected, with grateful thanks for their work over the past year. Thanks were expressed to all Helpers whose continuing work enables the Club’s activities to continue into its 20th year.
  • Badges marking Enable’s 50th anniversary and in support of work nationally and locally are available from the Vestibule table or Lorna (see recent news-sheets for details).

Church Council

The Council on Wednesday met principally to consider the Paper “Further Forward”, to be presented to the Circuit Meeting on June 18th, outlining ways in which the “Team Ministry” principle will be implemented from September. Please consult any member of the Council for information and give any comments to Keith (Church Steward), ’tricia or Clare (elected representatives), Sandy (Circuit Steward).

The Council also

  • heard of our proposed event on Saturday 19th June in support of the Mary Slessor Foundation (flyer will give details & watch this space!)
  • received the report of the decisions anent celebration of Holy Communion from May & agreed purchase of a supply of the appropriate Methodist Worship Book (see Sandy Laurie asap anent orders for personal copies)
  • agreed that ‘activity packs’ for the Children’s Group be available for use during part of Services in summer
  • noted that a series of ‘study meetings’ will be arranged during the summer, using material ‘Come As You Are’, for exploring discipleship and membership in the Methodist Church
  • agreed dates for future meetings
    • Monday 5th July – 7.30 pm
    • Wednesday 6th October – 7.30 pm.

Quiet Room

The downstairs back room is being prepared as a place for quiet reflection & personal prayer before worship on Sundays.

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our prayerful support is invited in May for work in Colombia where children grow up amidst drug culture, violence, abuse, being sold, family disintegration and street living. The Bible Society aims to reach 6 million youngsters in schools, orphanages, and young offenders’ institutions with Scripture materials, offering Christian values and hope.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • those in Sierra Leone returning to their homes after recent war and disruption
  • national elections this month in the Philippines
  • meeting of the SBS Field ministries Team, including review of “Bibleworld Experience”
  • gathering in Glasgow of facilitators of the ‘Conversations’ Bible study method
  • United Bible Societies’ Day of Prayer next Sunday
