The Communion Offering in May is for the work of the Scottish ecumenical equivalent of the Methodist “Mission Alongside the Poor” Fund. The Methodist director on the Trust’s Board is Ruth Angove (Edinburgh).
Scottish Bible Society
Our attention is particularly drawn this week to
- the severe poverty facing thousands of children in Togo who have no schooling and need to beg for food
- Free Church of Scotland General Assembly – the incoming Moderator is the Rev Fergus Macdonald, committed to Bible work for many years
- Liberia where the return of peace after a decade of conflict may allow the resumption of Bible distribution through its 15 counties
- The tiny minority of Christians in the Kingdom of Morocco, where there is close collaboration between the Bible Society and churches.
Feed The Minds
This ecumenical Literacy Agency, of which the Methodist Church is a member, has seen much change this year :
- The Head Office has moved from its own premises in Guildford to join with those of SPCK Worldwide (a founder member of FTM) at 1 Marylebone Road, London
- In-coming Office-Holders;
- New President - Myra Blyth (Deputy General Secretary, Baptist Union of Great Britain)
- Chairman - David Adeney (former Executive Director Tear Fund, Diocesan Secretary in Norwich)
- Treasurer - Chris Hutt (former executive officer of BMS)
- Director - Sue Parks (former Director SPCK Worldwide)
- FTM invites our prayers for its continuing work to “seek to support churches
and Christian partners across the globe in their mission to proclaim the gospel
and serve the needs of their communities.”
